ASSEMBLYMAN FINCH REMINDS CONSTITUENTS OF CORRECTION OFFICER RECRUITMENT DRIVE

     Assemblyman Gary Finch (R,C-Springport) today announced that the New York State Department of Civil Service will hold a state correction officer examination on Saturday, April 8, 2006.  The filing deadline for this test is Monday, February 20, 2006.

     Correction officers are responsible for the custody, security, safety and well-being, of inmates in state correctional facilities and camps.  Employees supervise the movement and activities of inmates and maintain order within the camps and prisons.

     The starting salary for a correction officer is $28,444 per year, which increases after six months to $30,043.  After successful completion of the one-year correction officer traineeship, the salary is boosted to $34,742 per year.
