ASSEMBLYMAN FINCH ANNOUNCES GRANTS FOR
LIBRARIES IN 123RD ASSEMBLY DISTRICT
Assemblyman Gary D.
Finch (R,C,I - Springport) announced that four libraries in his district
will receive state aid in 2009. The four libraries - Lisle Free
Library, Aurora Free Library, Peck Memorial Library and Phillips Free
Library - will receive a total of almost $160,000 in state grants.
"Libraries afford a wealth of knowledge to anyone who
wishes to take advantage of what they have to offer," said Finch. "I
encourage everyone to take time, stop by their library and browse all of
the information available."
A recent survey of New York's public libraries has
shown a significant need for construction and renovations totaling more
than $2.2 billion. Almost half of the state's public libraries are over
60 years old, and thus must be upgraded and repaired.
The grants, which will be used for restoration, repair
and upgrades will be given out as follows: Lisle Free Library will
receive $38,036 for expansion of its parking lot and sidewalks as well
as new lighting and drainage facilities; Aurora Free Library, $48,940
for restoration of the entryway; Peck Memorial Library, $23,094 for new
shelving and storage; and Phillips Free Library, $48,065 reconstruction
of the entryway, installation of drainage and lighting and book drops.
"These grants will help to ensure that our libraries
are kept in the best shape possible and that we keep them stocked with
modern equipment so that they can provide the best service possible to
our communities," Finch stated.
