ASSEMBLYMAN FINCH ANNOUNCES GRANTS FOR JUSTICE COURTS
 

     Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C – Springport) has announced that sixteen justice courts in the 123rd Assembly District will be receiving grants through the Justice Court Assistance Program.

     “I am pleased that many of the Justice Courts in my district will receive significant funding to ensure that they operate at the highest capacity,” said Finch. “These grants will help the courts serve our communities and ensure the safety and security of the people they serve. They also provide our localities with a significant source of revenue which helps to prevent further tax increases.”

     The grants, ranging from $634 in Richmond to almost $19,000 in Barker will be used for renovating, purchasing equipment to improve operations and secure their facilities. New York has nearly 1,300 Justice Courts that maintain a statewide comprehensive criminal history database, as well as the operation of programs that protect domestic violence victims and keep drunk drivers off the roads.

     Justice Courts are funded by the towns and villages that they serve. However, in 1999 the State Legislature established the Justice Court Assistance Program which provides grants awarded by the Chief Administrative Judge of the State court system.
