"Yesterday's passage of the MTA bailout is just
another part of the never-ending tradition of
upstate New York being shortchanged for the benefit
of New York City interests. Taxpayers throughout
the state will see their tax dollars go towards
reimbursing downstate schools that will pay the
authority's debt. Overspending and a distinct lack
of restraint and oversight drove the MTA into a
massive hole, and now even in a time of desperate
economic uncertainty, the people of my district will
see even more of their tax dollars sucked away and
siphoned downstate. It is time for these
organizations to start accepting responsibility for
their actions and finding ways to cut spending,
rather than passing the buck."
