FINCH CALLS ON ASSEMBLY LEADERSHIP TO ACT ON IMPORTANT ISSUES BEFORE SESSION ENDS

With just two days left in the 2007 Legislative Session, Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C –Springport) wants the Assembly to shift focus to issues that would bolster the sluggish upstate economy and rein in sky-high property taxes.

“We made great progress so far this session, in terms of expanding the STAR program and providing tax cuts for manufacturers, but I am disappointed that in the last days of Session, the Assembly is spending hours of precious time on one-house bills that the Senate has no intention of voting on this year,” expressed Finch.  Finch and many of his colleagues are disappointed by the last-minute divergence the Assembly Democrats have taken.

“Instead of continuing on the path of reform and providing tax relief that will help middle-class New Yorkers, we are squandering precious time on legislation that will go nowhere.  I am calling upon my Democratic counterparts to support measures that reduce the state sales tax on gasoline and provide lasting property tax relief – issues that all New Yorkers agree we should act on.”
