FOR RELEASE: IMMEDIATELY
CONTACT: MATT MOYSE (518) 455-5981 STATEMENT FROM ASSEMBLYMAN FINCH ON THE 2006 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
My colleagues and I in the Assembly Republican Conference set out at the
beginning of this session to bring about real tax relief for the taxpayers
of New York and to create safer communities. The protection and safety of
our communities is the most important issue to me as a state assemblyman.
This year we were successful in strengthening “Megan’s Law,” expanding the
DNA database, eliminating the statute of limitations and creating the
crime of aggravated D-W-I for those who operate a motor vehicle with a
blood alcohol content of .18 or more. My colleagues and I also led the
fight for real tax relief for New York’s taxpayers, which includes real
property tax relief, the elimination of sales tax for clothing and
footwear under $110 and a cap on the gasoline sales tax for prices above
$2.00 per gallon. I am very proud to be a part of the Assembly Republican
Conference who continuously pressed the issue of truly representing our
constituents and this year we were able to deliver real legislation that
puts our constituents ahead of everything else.
