Statement from Assemblyman Finch: Session Winding Down, Several Issues Still Need to be Addressed
Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C –Springport) issued the following statement regarding the work that remains to be done before the end of session next week, due in part to the public 5-way public leaders’ meeting:
“This session we passed measures that will improve the business climate in our state thanks in part to the reduction in the Corporate Franchise Tax, record levels of state aid for schools and a new Middle-Class STAR rebate program. With just a few days of the legislative calendar remaining, negotiations continue on several important issues. Of these, it appears we are close to agreements on legislation that will: expand the DNA database to include samples from all convicts; update the antiquated Wicks Law that mandates public construction projects use three separate contractors for projects larger than $50,000; and require schools to offer healthier foods. Other issues that are just as important, but lack a consensus includes reforming New York’s dormant power plant citing laws, giving judges long overdue pay raises, as well as creating a death penalty for corrections officers, police officers and peacekeepers.”
